General Board Meeting Minutes
December 13, 2011

Meeting Notes:

1. WELCOME AND CALL TO ORDER: Sarah called the meeting to order. Went around the table and did introduction for new and returning members. Ross made motion to approve agenda, Jennifer seconded, motion carried. Jennifer made motion to approve minutes, Ross seconded, motion carried. Chelsea unable to continue duties as secretary in February, board agreed Ross would continue.
2. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Pioneer Press article about students in Bangladesh. School tours last week. Green Ribbon School Award—will apply in February, will hear results in March. There will be 3 additional staff planning days next school year. Of the 27 national President’s Scholars, one was from SES.
3. TEACHER’S REPORT: Population conference for seniors in early January. Juniors are working on argumentation in Blue House, and interconnectivity in Rose House. Baker field trip coming up for juniors. Intensive theme classes concluded. Students have an art display at Apple Valley Bank. Animal Care received a grant to grow tilapia and plants together. World language days upcoming.
4. STUDENT’S REPORT: Talent show and fashion show coming up. Grad committee has started fundraising.
5. FINANCE COMMITTEE & TREASURER’S UPDATE:
1. Looking for new accountant. Numbers down a little, but looking okay overall.
2. Total: $294,804.44
6. GRANT REQUESTS: Carlson grant, World Savvy Sustainability Challenge grant, Mixed Blood Theater grant, $1700. Eva made motion to approve, Chelsea 2nd, motion carried. Student requests for Boundary Waters and Lifetime, $540. Mary made motion to approve, Melissa 2nd, motion carried. Additional student request for Lifetime Fitness, $50. Jennifer made motion to approve, Melissa 2nd, motion carries.

8. OTHER BUSINESS: Sustainability projects: Ross, PV company alliances, solar expo, sustainable business, LEED certification. Open houses approaching. Living Green Expo approaching. Committee charters to keep track of committees and responsibilities.
