- The Apple Valley Cheer Team placed first at the 2011 Spirit of America competition at the Mall of America Saturday, Jan. 22. The team also competed at the MCCA State Competition Saturday, Jan. 29, at Roy Wilkins Arena before heading to Orlando for the National High School Cheerleading Championship.

- The District 196 Curriculum and Instruction Advisory Council will meet 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at the District Office, 3455 153rd St. W., Rosemount. The public is welcome to attend. Topics include the district's budget-adjustment process for 2011-12, formation of the superintendent's academy, an update on the middle school program review, a curriculum review update and information on the Pyramid Response-to-Intervention model.

- The School of Environmental Studies in Apple Valley, Minnesota will host its 4th annual Environmental College and Career Fair 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8.
